In short

Your scans and your files stay on your PC: PC Confort's software sends no reports. Each program sends one anonymous statistic a day, which you can turn off in its settings (details below). DriverDetect also contacts pcconfort.com to check a Premium key and keep the free edition's daily counter. To find updates, it queries Windows Update, NVIDIA and the Microsoft catalogue directly, as Windows itself does. Eyes Guard contacts pcconfort.com at most once a day, to find out whether there is a new version: it sends nothing but its version number. With Premium, it also checks its licence, as DriverDetect does. PC Confort Center downloads the list of programs and their new versions from pcconfort.com; Gaming Booster sends only the daily statistic.

The site only keeps what you enter when you create an account or place an order, and what it needs to protect itself. An account is optional: the software works without one.

What we keep when you create an account

  • your first name or nickname and your e-mail address;
  • your password, in hashed form (bcrypt): we cannot read it, and nobody can;
  • if you choose "Continue with Google" or "Continue with Facebook": the technical identifier that service gives your account, your first name and your e-mail address, as it sends them. We receive neither your contacts, nor your posts, nor the right to write on your behalf, and the site loads nothing from those services until you click the button;
  • the date the account was created, the date of your last sign-in, and the site language you use (the language of our e-mails).

When you create an account with your e-mail address, we send you a confirmation link valid for 48 hours and record the date the address is confirmed; until it is, the account shows no licence.

When you buy a licence

An order keeps your name, your e-mail, the chosen offer, the amount, the payment method and its reference, the address it was placed from, the page language and the key delivered. Card payments are processed by Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd.) on its own page: we never receive your card number, only the confirmation that the payment went through. Invoices are kept for ten years, as the law requires; the rest of the order, for as long as the licence exists.

What we keep for security

When a sign-in fails or an account is created, we record the IP address, the e-mail address entered and the time. This is used only to block robots that try passwords or create accounts in bulk. These records are erased after 24 hours.

What we count when you visit the site

Each page viewed is recorded, with the day and time, the page, the site you came from, the type of device (computer, mobile, tablet), your IP address and the name of your browser. The address and the browser are used to tell visits by people from visits by indexing robots (Google, Bing and others, recorded separately and never counted as visitors) and to spot abuse; they are erased after 90 days, and the record then remains without them, for the counts. If you are signed in, the visit is linked to your account. No third-party analytics tool is involved: these records are kept by the site itself and are seen only by its administration.

What DriverDetect sends to pcconfort.com

The free edition asks the site each day how many free actions it has left; a Premium edition checks its key at startup, then every few hours. In both cases, DriverDetect sends a fingerprint of the Windows installation (a hash, never the identifier itself), the PC name as Windows shows it, the software version, the Windows version and the language; for Premium, the key as well. The site keeps each PC's counter for the day together with a fingerprint of the Internet connection, to limit the number of free PCs per connection; for each licence, the list of PCs it is active on, the date of each check and a fingerprint of the address and of the network it came from; and the fingerprint of the PCs that have already used a Premium trial, so that there is only one per PC. These fingerprints are hashes: the address cannot be recovered from them. Apart from the daily statistic (below), nothing else leaves the PC: not the hardware list, not the drivers, not your user name. Every answer from the site is signed, and DriverDetect accepts no other. Without a connection, the counted actions of the free edition wait until the site can be reached, and Premium stays active for 3 days after the last successful check. If you link DriverDetect to your account ("Sign in with my pcconfort.com account"), the site keeps, for each linked PC, a fingerprint of a connection token (never the token itself), the PC's name and the date it was last used; the My account page unlinks a PC, and deleting the account unlinks them all.

What Eyes Guard sends to pcconfort.com

At most once a day, Eyes Guard asks the site whether there is a new version: it then sends nothing but its version number. A free Eyes Guard, with no key and no linked account, never contacts the licence service. With a Premium key, or once linked to your account ("Sign in with my pcconfort.com account"), it checks its licence at startup and then from time to time, and at each check sends the same information as DriverDetect: the key (for a linked PC, its connection token), a fingerprint of the machine (a SHA-256 hash, never the identifier itself), the PC name, the Windows version, the Eyes Guard version and the language. The site keeps the same as for DriverDetect: each licence's PCs, the date of each check with a fingerprint of the address and of the network, the PCs linked to your account, and the fingerprint of the PCs that have already had the Eyes Guard Premium trial, so that there is only one per PC. Apart from the daily statistic, nothing else leaves the PC: not your hours, not your settings, not the list of your software. Every answer from the site is signed, and Eyes Guard accepts no other.

What PC Confort Center and Gaming Booster send

PC Confort Center downloads the list of programs and their versions from pcconfort.com, at most once a day, and, when you ask for it, the program to install or update: it then sends nothing but its version number. For PC maintenance, it checks a Premium key and keeps the count of free clean-ups as DriverDetect does, with the same information. The “Test my connection” button measures how fast your router and two public servers (Cloudflare and Google) answer, using empty “pings”.

Gaming Booster contacts pcconfort.com only for the daily statistic. To measure latency while you play, it sends an empty “ping” every second to a public server (Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1, which you can change in its settings) and to your router; its DNS test, when you run it, queries a few public DNS servers.

The programs' daily statistic

Once a day, DriverDetect, PC Confort Center, Eyes Guard and Gaming Booster each send pcconfort.com an anonymous statistic: the program's name and version, its language, whether it runs Premium, the Windows version, edition and language, and a number the program drew at random. That number is used only to count each PC once. Each program has its own, it is neither the PC's name nor a fingerprint of it, and it is replaced with a new one every 13 months.

The IP address of the request is used only to find the country, region and city, on the server itself, with the IP Geolocation by DB-IP database (CC BY 4.0 licence); then it is forgotten: it is written down nowhere. The statistic is never linked to an account, a licence, an order or a visit to the site, and only the site's administration sees it. It is erased 25 months after the last send. It follows the CNIL's rules for audience measurement without consent: anonymous, for the publisher only, no more precise than the city, and you can object to it at any time.

To turn it off, untick “Send one anonymous statistic a day” in the program's settings: under Privacy in DriverDetect and PC Confort Center, Data in Eyes Guard, About in Gaming Booster. The program then asks the site to erase this PC at once, and sends nothing more.

Two cookies, both necessary

The pcc_session cookie is set only when you open the sign-in or sign-up form, when you place an order, or when you are signed in. It keeps you signed in (30 days at most) and protects forms against submissions from other sites. The pcc_lang cookie remembers the language chosen at the top of the page, for one year; it is set only if you change the language. Neither is used for advertising or audience measurement: that is why no consent is asked for.

No advertising cookie, no third-party analytics, and the site loads nothing from Google, Facebook or any other service: fonts, images and scripts all come from pcconfort.com. The visit counts described above are kept by the site itself, without cookies. Signing in with Google or Facebook goes through the session cookie: nothing more.

The site's language

Until you choose a language with the flag at the top of the page, the site shows you the one that suits you best, from the languages set in your browser and your country. The country is worked out from your IP address on the server itself, with the IP Geolocation by DB-IP database (CC BY 4.0 licence): your address is sent to no one, and neither the country nor the guessed language is recorded. Your choice with the flag always wins; that is what the pcc_lang cookie remembers.

Why

To run the account you asked for (your downloads, new versions, your licence keys), to deliver and track your orders, to check DriverDetect and Eyes Guard licences and keep DriverDetect's free edition counter, to know whether the site is visited and how many PCs run each program, and to protect the site. Your data is never sold, rented or shared.

Where and for how long

On a server rented from OVHcloud, in France. Account information is kept as long as the account exists; a session unused for 30 days is erased; security records after 24 hours; a visit's IP address and browser after 90 days, the visit record itself after thirteen months; a program's daily statistic, 25 months after its last send.

Deleting your account

In My account, the "Delete my account" button erases the account and its session immediately, including an account opened with Google or Facebook (you may also want to remove PC Confort from the list of authorised apps with that service). You can also ask by e-mail at contact@pcconfort.com. Licence keys linked to your address (DriverDetect, Eyes Guard) stay valid: the software needs them.

Your rights

You can access, correct, retrieve or have your data erased, and object to its processing: write to contact@pcconfort.com from your account's address. We reply within one month. If the reply does not satisfy you, you can contact the CNIL, the French data protection authority.
